Until now though Kitchin’s backstory and interesting philosophies on life had not been known, however with the film’s online success - a selection as a New York Times Op-Doc, a Vimeo Staff Pick, and now an SotW selection - Kitchin’s remarkable story and unique perspective have traveled the world.Īt 16 minutes, the film is long by our standards, but never drags. It was the most decorated festival short documentary of 2013, and is a profile of Kitchin, a figure famous among the community of Pacific Beach for spending all day, every day gliding in a state of zen bliss. Slomo, directed by Josh Izenberg, is a documentary of rare value. He wasn’t locked out of the mainstream rat-race - he conquered it - only to give it up for the pure clarity of rollerblading down the boardwalk. Espousing a throw-back hippy philosophy of “do what makes you happy”, Kitchin has the benefit of being 100% genuine, and has no interest in selling you on anything. Most of these people deserve your skepticism if not outright scorn - that said I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone as ridiculous and yet as convincing as Slomo‘s main character John Kitchin. The epiphany is theirs and it can be yours too, for a low low promotional price. Turn on your TV, open your inbox, and you’re confronted by no shortage of individuals who claim they “get it”. In the moment-by-moment action (as well as the beautiful setting that balances exotic with despair) Max Payne 3 does so much right it’s easy to overlook the story’s habit of aping Man on Fire's plot or the fact that the game might just be a little too long for its own good. The environment is often shredded to bits, destroying you and your enemy’s cover during the course of a firefight. Max’s body feels like it has weight as he leaps around, often taking a full second or two to get up once he’s landed, leaving you open to enemy fire. Max always carries his weapons in a believable way, a pistol in one hand, a shotgun gripped by the barrel in the other. In 2011, the game’s approach to mixing realism with Michael Mann-like violence was unparalleled. Our tragic protagonist’s past trails him, causing misery and death to everyone around him, not to mention glorious shootouts.Įven if Max Payne 3 didn’t have the series’ renowned bullet-time sequences (it does, thank goodness), which allows you to slow down the world Matrix style, the gunplay would still be fantastic. Max Payne 3 is a bold game, essentially throwing the closure of the second game’s ending out the window to focus on Max’s time in Brazil working private security for a wealthy family. Rockstar took over the reins to everyone’s favorite series starring a widowed, drunk cop after Remedy bowed out, and the third entry is a hell of a sequel. In these games, you had the chance to become what is called a trainer, who ventures through various regions of this fictional world, where you battle animal-like creatures of different elements, and if you defeat them, they can be captured and stored into what are called Pokeballs. It might feel this game has been around forever since there are multiple generations of people that have had experiences with these franchises in one way or another, but it’s not such an old series, with it starting off in 1996 with the release of a double video-game by Nintendo called Pokemon: Red and Blue, which was called Pocket Monsters in the original Japanese release. There are few gaming franchises in the world as recognizable as Pokemon is because this is one of Japan’s biggest exports when it comes to media, with the franchise having started a few decades ago with the release of a few video games, and then expanded upon its brand with manga series, a highly-popular anime television series which has had all sorts of new remakes and stories over the years, collectible cards, a viral mobile app in the form of Pokemon Go, a successful live-action movie called Detective Pikachu, and, of course, there are lots of Pokemon games online that you can play, with the best of them now being available only on friv games, right here and now!
